{"id":57,"date":"2011-03-30T15:27:07","date_gmt":"2011-03-30T15:27:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jackhyles.us\/?p=57"},"modified":"2011-04-01T16:42:08","modified_gmt":"2011-04-01T20:42:08","slug":"i-love-america-by-dr-jack-hyles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jackhyles.us\/?p=57","title":{"rendered":"I Love America &#8211; by Dr Jack Hyles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I love Thanksgiving when we pray,<br \/>\nAnd July 4th and Labor Day<br \/>\nWith picnics, ants, and hungry flies,<br \/>\nAnd barbecue and hot French fries,<br \/>\nWith Cokes and chips and apple pies<br \/>\nBeneath some hazy, lazy skies.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->I love Miami&#8217;s royal palm<br \/>\nThat oozes forth a healing balm<br \/>\nBeside the ocean&#8217;s quiet calm.<\/p>\n<p>And Betsy Ross, and Orville Wright,<br \/>\nAnd dear Ben Franklin&#8217;s flying kite;<br \/>\nAnd Thomas Jefferson&#8217;s mightly quill,<br \/>\nAnd Alamo, and Bunker Hill,<br \/>\nAnd Paul Revere&#8217;s midnight ride,<br \/>\nAnd Wilbur Wright&#8217;s successful glide.<\/p>\n<p>I love United&#8217;s friendly skies;<br \/>\nAnd baseball when the umpire cries,<br \/>\n&#8220;Play ball!&#8221; as thousands quietly rise<br \/>\nTo turn their moistened sober eyes<br \/>\nToward waving flag that proudly flies.<\/p>\n<p>And Casey Stengal&#8217;s Stengaleze,<br \/>\nAnd Dairy Queen, and Tastee Freeze,<br \/>\nAnd cotton candy at the zoo;<br \/>\nAnd corny dogs and Big Macs too;<br \/>\nAnd Burger Kings, and shopping malls,<br \/>\nAnd hockey pucks, and basketballs.<\/p>\n<p>And Mississippi&#8217;s cotton fields,<br \/>\nAnd Holland, Michigan&#8217;s spinning wheels;<br \/>\nMonotonous midwestern plains,<br \/>\nFlorida&#8217;s sun, Seattle&#8217;s rams.<\/p>\n<p>Atlanta&#8217;s lovely, dogwood trails,<br \/>\nAnd Santa Fe&#8217;s long clicking rails.<br \/>\nI love the Rocky Mountain peaks<br \/>\nBeneath a sky which mutely speaks;<\/p>\n<p>And Disney World, and Disney Land,<br \/>\nAnd Georgia&#8217;s fertile blood-red sand:<br \/>\nThe Mississippi, and Rio Grande;<br \/>\nWisconsin&#8217;s cheese and dairy land.<\/p>\n<p>I love McDonald&#8217;s chocolate shakes,<br \/>\nAnd Minnesota&#8217;s thousand lakes;<br \/>\nThe Royal Gorge&#8217;s mighty yawn,<br \/>\nA sleepy Alabama dawn;<br \/>\nThe harvest moon that shineth on.<\/p>\n<p>I love to gaze at Yellowstone<br \/>\nWhile licking on an ice cream cone;<br \/>\nAnd Howard Johnson&#8217;s Motor Lodge;<br \/>\nAnd Ford, and Chevrolet, and Dodge.<\/p>\n<p>I love the stately Empire State,<br \/>\nAnd San Francisco&#8217;s Golden Gate.<\/p>\n<p>I love St. Louis&#8217; friendly arch,<br \/>\nThe Statue of Liberty&#8217;s burning torch,<br \/>\nThe Washington Monument&#8217;s prickly goad,<br \/>\nAnd Colorado&#8217;s trail ridge road.<\/p>\n<p>I love &#8220;My Country, Tis of Thee,&#8221;<br \/>\nOh, blessed land of liberty.<br \/>\nLong may our glorious land be bright,<br \/>\nWith freedom&#8217;s wondrous holy light,<br \/>\nProtect us by Thy matchless might.<\/p>\n<p>I love to stand with hand o&#8217;er heart<br \/>\nAnd think of those who did their part,<br \/>\nWho left a mom a lone gold star,<br \/>\nWhose bodies rest &#8216;neath fields afar.<\/p>\n<p>I love New England&#8217;s rolling farms,<br \/>\nIts quaint decor and blushing charms.<\/p>\n<p>I love the azalea&#8217;s freshened blooms,<br \/>\nEast Texas&#8217; roses sparkling plumes.<\/p>\n<p>I love it when my church choir sings,<br \/>\nAnd know the peace that worship brings.<\/p>\n<p>There beats within my breast a dream<br \/>\nThat that small faint and flickering gleam<br \/>\nWill soon become a mighty flame<br \/>\nTo spread to all His matchless name:<br \/>\nThat those dear four who call me &#8220;Dad&#8221;<br \/>\nWill know the country I have had;<br \/>\nWhere freedom&#8217;s flag flies proud and high,<br \/>\nAnd those dear ones may loudly cry,<br \/>\n&#8220;I&#8217;m free!
